The Prospect of Whitby is an old tavern by the River Thames; it is supposedly London’s oldest riverside inn, and previously went by various names including The Pelican and later The Devil's Tavern.


Its history dates back to the 1520's in the reign of Henry VIII where it was a favourite of smugglers and sailors.


More recently, Samuel Pepys and Charles Dickens were amongst the satisfied customers.
